Geothermal energy is a renewable source of energy that is becoming more and more state of the art. In addition, new developments in drilling technology and heat extracting methods foster the widespread market penetration.
The standard technology to harvest geothermal energy is based on vertically orientated boreholes. This is expensive, presupposes a well trained drilling team and very often causes damage to land and gardens. It’s therefore not surprising that drilling costs regularly represent more than 50 % of the entire investment, hindering potential customers from investing in geothermal heatingsystems.
The people behind the GRD method had these issues in mind. GRD is a patented, slanted bore method where one central drill chamber is used to install heat pipes radially in all directions and angles of inclination, even under existing buildings.
It’s similar to the roots of a tree: all its dimensions are used to provide a sustaining and efficient energy supply.
The compact and operator friendly Geodrill 4 R is the only bore rig that is able to work in three dimensions.
Heat pipes deliver cost-free energy from the underground to a heat pump, where the earth’s energy is transformed into heating energy. At least 75% of the total heating energy comes from the earth. The electrical energy
consumed by the heat pump represents only 25 % or less of the total energy balance.
• The chimney becomes obsolete
• No worries about ever changing oil and gas prices anymore
• Geothermal energy is environmentally friendly because carbon dioxide emissions are reduced
• The operational efficiency of geothermal heating is impressive – even during long cold winters
In the European Union, 20% of the total energy demand must be generated from renewables by 2020. In Germany, more than 24,000 heating systems based on geothermal energy were installed in 2006. That’s twice the number in 2005, this trend is ongoing. Geothermal heating and cooling is becoming a success story worldwide!
Greatly reduced investment costs for the customer
• The GRD bore rig is easy to transport and ready to use in a very short time.
• It is also compact enough to be used in confined spaces, for example in close proximity to properties
• Heat pipes: operator-friendly technology (click-seal pipes)
• Minimal damage to land and/or gardens
