The innovative GRD System

GRD combines the advantages of horizontally installed ground heat collectors and vertically installed ground heat pipes. The system utilises all the available land within the property boundaries. Deep underlying drinking water levels remain untouched.

In addition, the GRD technology is based on the need for minimal technical equipment and clearly reduces the overall
expenditure for installing heat pipes.

GRD is a method that targets the depth range down to 40 metres. Why is that? As a rule of thumb, the underground temperature is always around 10 °C plus/minus 1°C. The first 20 m depth of underground is characterized by a temperature regime that follows seasonal climatic changes.

In other words: the amount of heat removed during cold periods is “renewed” again in warm periods.

Furthermore, the average atmospheric heat flux due to insulation and rainwater i.e. the heat that flows from the surface into the ground, equals app 170 Watts/m². The geothermal heat flux, i. e. the heat that flows in the opposite direction (from the inner earth to the surface) equals approximately 0.065 W/m².

The input of atmospheric energy is 2600 times higher than the amount of energy provided by the inner earth.

What makes the GRD slant method unique?

• Optimum underground utilisation: the number and depth of borehole heat exchangers can be easily adjusted to the property’s dimensions and local geolog

• The drill rig can be rotated horizontally 360 degrees. The angle of inclination is also adjustable, with a range between 35 to 65 degrees.

• Utilisation of the groundwater’s temperature without harming the limited water resources

• High and stable heat extraction

• The heat pipes are combined in an accessible drill chamber – a clean solution • High quality heat pipes that are state of the art

• Short installation cost recovery period
